Our Work Our Services About Crendo Client Stuff
Rather than being constructed by hand, database-driven web pages are created dynamically (in real-time) thus giving a web site visitor an up-to-date view of information stored in the database. When the information in the database is updated, site visitors will immediately see the changes that have been made (rather than having to wait for someone to update one or more static web pages).

Database-driven web pages have several other important advantages:

  • clients can do their own maintenance via a set of web-based data entry forms or by working directly with the database (especially when Microsoft Access is used as the back-end database)

  • the information that the web site visitor sees on a dynamic web page can be quickly customized (for example, the sort order of the items can be changed or certain database fields can be shown or hidden)

  • the look&feel of the database-driven pages can be easily changed vs. possibly having to redo dozens if not hundreds or thousands of static web pages in the event that a site's design needs to be modified

  • several different views of the database information can be presented simultaneously (for example, the items could be presented in alphabetical order by name but then could also be presented sorted by cost as well as by newness); creating and maintaining all these different views by hand might not be cost-effective

  • the site visitor can do a search on the items in the database

  • in situations where there are hundreds or thousands of items it can become prohibitive to maintain a static web page for each item and in those situations a database is almost essential
Common situations where a database might come in handy include:
  • wine list

  • current events

  • bookstore/bibliography

  • real estate listings

  • inventory of products for sale

  • useful web site URLs

  • resumes

Our process isn't just a jargon-laiden sales tool - it's a complete belief system that has evolved from our personal experiences building complex systems. Our main programming talent is one of the two Crendo partners, and he has over 15 years of professional experience at high-level software & hardware companies and has a BS and MS in Computer Science from Stanford.

Our primary scripting languages include JavaScript, ASP/VBScript, ColdFusion, Perl and PHP. Our primary databases are Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, mySQL, and Oracle.

Featured Projects

  • The NAPM Silicon Valley's Supply Knowledge™ web site features a half-dozen Access databases and a handful of ASP and ColdFusion scripts that enable features such as having the four most current events from the events database and two sponsors chosen at random from the sponsors database appear automatically on the home page.

The site also uses ASP scripts to parse XML-tagged data returned by a search engine and various RSS feeds to enable users to do searches over a broad collection of documents.

  • We also did the back-end programming for the product areas of the New Focus web site. This site employs a Windows server, a SQL Server database, and ColdFusion as the scripting language. All of the product catalog pages are generated real-time from data in the SQL Server database.
